General Forum Rules and Guidelines
What follows are the general forum rules and guidelines, pertaining to posting and policy. Following these rules is necessary and required.
Unacceptable Behavior
On this site there are unacceptable behavior rules, meaning if you do these things you will be punished for it since you are in violation of said rules. They are as follows:
- Flaming: When you insult someone or attack with ad hominem reasoning, or no reasons at all. Person A states argument X. Person B personally attacks Person A.
- Trolling: The act or actions to get someone to start flaming, basically putting out flame bait and attempting to start fights between members in an unsanctioned forum or way.
- Baiting: The actual act of baiting, from putting out small snide comments to major offenses and direct insults to call someone out, or even making something up to get one person to attack another.
- Disrespecting Staff: Being disrespectful or insulting staff members.
- Disrespecting Members: Insulting members and/or making stuff up about them and causing problem for the staff (akin to baiting).
Language Policy and Use
It is important that the language rules be maintained so that the staff can properly do their job. We are not against others of different backgrounds who speak and type in different languages, however if we cannot understand it, and who knows you might be insulting us in some other language, we will have to stop it.
- Use English please. If in the future a crowd large enough from another region wishes to use their language it will be looked at as long as there is a trustworthy moderator - but we're talking more than 100 people.
- Do not use netspeak or leet speak; since here it is n00b speak. There is nothing more annoying to read than words shortened in some kind of strange way that breaks the ability to actually read a topic. Is it too hard to ask that you type the entire word out? It's not really that big of a deal considering by typing words out you help make it easy to read.
Warnings
Warnings are a visible punishment for rule violations. They are issued one at a time, unless it is a major offense, and are assigned a time period. You get two warnings; the third one is always a temporary ban. Warnings are a last resort and are never used as a first-offense type of violation, rather the staff is required to attempt to mediate the situation first if a post is reported.
Bans and Banning
You will be banned for major offenses and an accumulation of minor offenses and pretty much ignoring the staff. A ban is where you are basically blocked out of the site on your account. Most bans are timed bans, but permanent ones are also possible if you are really intent on giving us a bad day. We're like any spider in the theory of staffing... consider the warnings the hair flicking, and the threat posing. The ban is getting hit.
- Being un-banned means you will wait until the time limit expires.
- Timed bans have an average length of 90 days.
- Permanent bans are never lifted.
Staff Contact Policy
To contact a staff member you need to first ask yourself if it is that important and if it is please use the PM system. It is rude to IM a staff member about the site constantly on their personal messenger account and will drain them from wanting to staff on the site. If you harass a staff member you will most likely be blocked, and if you continue on the board you will be banned.
Do: PM a staff member your problem.
Don't: IM a staff member and tell them or demand them to address your problem.
Do: Use the complaint forum.
Don't: IM the staff member who is on all of your problems that could go there.
Do: When you IM a staff member be cordial and if you think it is that important be respectful since you are using their time.
Don't: Be a jerk and demand this, that, and the other gets done.
Do: Use the report systenm.
Don't: Link staffers in IM to something you could report.
