I set up a communal OBT project... I've got 8 slings in here, and thought that I'd share a couple photos of them in their enclosure. :)

I'm still at eight, but one of them was twice as large as the rest (even freshly molted ones) and I got a bit scared and separated them all until I can get them in a 50 gallon. Then I'll be okay with them staying there until adulthood :)

Well, I have read that once separated for any length of time (I've been looking this up) past a day or two that they might "forget" each other, and instead begin "OM NOM NOM" attacks.

Additionally to insure a colony folks keep them in relatively tiny containers so they are constantly in contact to avoid the above scenario.

I've heard that, but they were initially non-communal and there wasn't any "om-nom-nom" when I changed that.

Well, consider just keeping the lil' ones together with the little ones, and the big ones with the uber-big one so they still stay used to it? Iunno. Also for a cheap 50gal go garage sale hunting. I got my 55 for 10 bucks.

I don't think you will have a problem putting them back together, I have three OBT slings in communal. They were sac mates, and they weren't living communal when I got them and they had to be 3rd instar at least. They all have molted now, and seem to be the same size as the ones in the pics and are doing very well together. I have them in one of those cubes from Michaels. I'm getting 10 more for another communal soon, so we'll see how that goes.
